Storm Eowyn Hits – A Challenging but Resilient Winter at Townhead Farm

This winter, Storm Eowyn made its mark, bringing the first major disruption to our deliveries since the infamous Beast from the East in 2018. High winds and relentless weather swept through, reminding us of the power of nature. But, as with every challenge, there’s always a silver lining – and in this case, it comes in the form of a well-stocked woodpile that will keep us warm for the year ahead.

However, not all of the storm’s impact was so welcome. The fierce winds tore through Hen House One, damaging the polytunnel-style roof. Several sections of the outer skin ripped open, leaving the insulation exposed to the elements. It was a worrying sight, but thankfully, the inner layer held strong, ensuring our birds remained safe and dry.

Looking ahead, we’re hoping the structure will last until summer, when we can carry out the necessary repairs—or possibly replace it altogether. The timing aligns with our seasonal flock switch, so with careful planning, we’ll minimize disruption to the birds while making improvements to their home.

Farming always brings its share of surprises, but resilience is at the heart of everything we do. Whether it’s battling storms or adapting to changing conditions, we remain committed to providing the best care for our livestock and maintaining the high-quality produce our customers know and love.

Thank you for your continued support—we couldn’t do it without you! Keep an eye on our updates as we tackle the next phase of our farm’s journey.

Have you faced challenges from the recent weather? We’d love to hear how you’ve been managing!
